The auction for IPL 2025 is just around the corner and ahead of the big event, the buzz around the retention list is increasing with each passing day. There are plenty of rumours floating around and one of them is that Royal Challengers Bengaluru will go for Rohit Sharma in the auction. If it does happen, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will play together for the first time in IPL, and has created lot of excitement among the fans. 

So, with great enthusiasm around the news in the cricketing circles, AB de Villiers, the former RCB and South African cricketer has shared his views. ABD on his official YouTube channel stated that if Rohit Sharma plays for RCB in IPL 2025, it will be the biggest move in the history of the tournament. He added that it will make more headlines than any other IPL transfer in the past. However, the legendary batter also mentioned that he does not think Mumbai Indians will leave Rohit Sharma which is likely to tone down the excitement of the fans, especially RCB fans.

"If Rohit Sharma goes to RCB, then it will be the Biggest Move ever. It will make much more Headlines but I can't see Mumbai Indians letting go of Rohit Sharma."

Rohit Sharma - A Captaincy Option For RCB

BCCI has allowed each franchise to retain upto six players for IPL 2025 and one of them should be an uncapped player. There is high possibility that MI will retain Rohit Sharma, but the rumours of him leaving the franchise are floating because he was replaced by Hardik Pandya as captain ahead of the 2024 season. 

Mumbai Indians were criticised heavily after the move, and there were also reports that Rohit is not happy with his demotion and is likely to leave the franchise ahead of IPL 2025. RCB, on the other hand, is likely to appoint new captain for the next cycle, so if they buy Rohit in the IPL 2025 auction, he might lead RCB.

So, if he does decide to leave MI, the franchises like RCB, Punjab Kings are likely to bid for the T20 World Cup winning captain and it would be interesting to see how things shape up in the near future.
