Spin-bowling all-rounder Axar Patel was understandably elated after his heroics with the bat in the 2nd ODI against the West Indies that helped India clinch a thriller by two wickets.
How the all-rounder won the game for India
Patel, who hammered an unbeaten 35-ball 64 with the help of three 4s and five monstrous sixes, was appointed the 'Player Of the Match' for his all-round display. The 28-year-old described his performance as special as it ultimately helped his team get over the line.
With 6 needed off the last three deliveries, Axar finished off in style as he hammered a full-toss from Kyle Mayers over his head for his 5th six to pull off an epic jailbreak for India.
When asked about his discussion with Deepak Hooda at the time, he revealed that they had decided to take the game deep via intent-laden batting.
"I think this is a special one. It came at a crucial time and also helped the team to win the series. We have done the same in the IPL. We just needed to remain calm and keep the intensity up," said Axar in the post-match presentation.
"I would want to continue performing like this"- Axar Patel
The left-arm orthodox got emotional during the interview as he recalled that this is the first time he is involved in an ODI series since 2017.
"I was playing an ODI after close to 5 years. I would want to continue performing like this for my team," he added.
The hosts will look to avert a series whitewash and salvage lost pride when they take on Dhawan's men on Wednesday, July 27.
