The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) franchise roped in Smaran Ravichandran for the ongoing IPL 2025 season. The 21-year-old will join the ‘Orange Army’ as a replacement for injured Australian spinner Adam Zampa.
Smaran recently played the 2024-25 Indian domestic season for the Karnataka cricket team. Ahead of his IPL debut, here is a look at all the details regarding this talented and uncapped Indian batter.
Who is Smaran Ravichandran?
Smaran Ravichandran faced multiple snubs throughout his cricketing journey before finding his breakthrough in the CK Nayudu Trophy, where he plundered 829 runs to impress one-and-all. The cricketer has also proven himself to be extremely prolific in the Maharaja T20 tournament.
Playing for the Gulbarga Mystics back during the 2024 season last year, Smaran Ravichandran listed 302 runs from just nine innings at an average of 43.14, and held a staggering strike rate of 145.19, recording one century and two half-centuries during the course of his campaign. He has also previously graced the Shivamogga Strikers jersey in domestic T20 cricket.
After putting up a string of formidable scores across junior levels, Ravichandran made his Karnataka debut during the 2024-25 Indian domestic season. To date, he has played seven first class matches, where he has scored 516 runs at an average of 64.50. He tonked back-to-back hundreds against Punjab and Haryana earlier this year.
The 21-year-old also holds averages of 72.16 in 10 List A games, and 34 in six T20 matches, all for Karnataka.
In April 2025, Smaran received his maiden IPL contract in the form of the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise. He was recruited as a replacement for Australian international and star spinner Adam Zampa for the IPL 2025 season.
