As we get closer to the pivotal part of the season where teams are fighting for the playoff spots, Punjab Kings (PBKS) will welcome the defending champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the HPCA Stadium, Dharmashala on Sunday afternoon clash.

In their Indian Premier League (IPL) head-to-head encounters, both teams share almost equal records. In the 29 matches that they have played against each other, CSK has won 15 to PBKS' 14. They have also played a super over, back in the day in 2010 when PBKS came out victorious.

Heading into Sunday's game, the hosts sit 7th on the table with 8 points in 10 matches and can potentially go up to the 5th spot, keeping their playoff hopes alive. On the other hand, CSK who sit 5th currently with 10 points can jump to the 3rd position.

When PBKS Last Met CSK

It was just last week, May 1, when these two teams collided in Chennai's Chepauk Stadium in match 49 of the season. Sam Curran asked Ruturaj Gaikwad and co. to bat first after winning the toss, citing the dew factor in the later part of the match.

Batting first, CSK got off to a relatively slow start, managing just 37/0 in the first 5 overs before PBKS captain was attacked as they finished the powerplay at 55/0. However, thanks to Harpreet Brar's and Rahul Chahar's disciplined spells of 2/17 and 12/16 respectively, PBKS just conceded 47 runs in the middle overs.

The hosts finished off at 162/7 with skipper Ruturaj holding an end and scoring 62(48), Moeen Ali's 15(9) and MS Dhoni's 14(11).

Punjab started their chase well with 52/1 in the powerplay. Jonny Bairstow scored a quick 46(30), putting them in the pole position to win the game. Rilee Rossouw looked good for his 43(23), being the last man to be dismissed.

Shashank Singh and Curran finished off the game with a calm and collected 50-run stand in 37 balls as PBKS won the game by 7 wickets and 13 balls spare. Harpreet Brar was adjudged as Player of The Match for his valiant spell in the first innings.
