Tilak Varma unveiled the inspiration behind his unique celebrations after reaching fifty in the Asian Games T20I semifinal played on Friday (October 6) against Bangladesh.

As the rising young left-hander completed his superlative half-century in the knock-out clash in Hangzhou, China, he was seen laying bare his chest, pointing towards a tattoo on the side and then raising his hands to thank the heavens.

The celebration took the commentators and fans by surprise as they wondered who the tattoo reference was to and why exactly Varma chose to partly take his shirt off before expressing gratitude with a look towards the skies.

However, the youngster revealed after the game that his unique celebration was a tribute to the hardships faced by his mother and her unparalleled contribution in his journey.

Varma dedicated his brilliant knock to his mother Gayatri Devi, whose face he has tattooed to the left of his stomach.

One of the faces on the tattooed image that Varma had pointed to was of his mother, who would've been delighted back in Mumbai to see her son shine in a critical encounter of the Asian Games event in India colours and may have shed a tear or two watching her son pay her a fitting tribute.

Notably, the other face on the tattoo was of Indian skipper Rohit Sharma's little daughter 'Samaira', who happens to be Varma's "best friend" and inspirational figure in his life. Indian fans would recall Varma dedicating his maiden T20I half-century made in the West Indies series in July to Samaira as well.

"The celebration for my mom, I was a bit down in the last few games, I included my best friend 'Samaira' in that as well," Varma said after India's nine-wicket win.

Back then also, Varma had undergone an amusing celebration by joining his two hands and waving them like he was playing with a baby, which was an obvious reference to Samaira, the bond with whom he has developed being part of the Rohit-led Mumbai Indians (MI) side in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

After missing out in recent games, Varma reinforced his talent and promise as an India cricketer by smashing an unbeaten 55 off just 26 deliveries against Bangladesh in the Asiad semifinal. The cricketer returned to form and showcased why he is rated as one of India's brightest young players.
