The Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi didn't just witness an exemplary display of cricket during India's World Cup 2023 clash against Afghanistan on Wednesday; it experienced a significant outpouring of nationalistic pride.

'Maa Tujhe Salaam' became the anthem of the night as India beat Afghanistan

A wave of patriotic passion washed over the stadium as thousands joined their voices in a goosebump-inducing rendition of ‘Maa Tujhe Salaam’ and ‘Vande Mataram’, echoing the nation’s pride. With two wins in two games, the hosts soared high, defeating Afghanistan by a margin of eight wickets.

In a stadium throbbing with energy, scenes of elation painted a vivid picture as the iconic tribute to India resonated. It wasn’t just a cricketing spectacle, but an unforgettable display of unity and love for the country.

Coming to the game, India, tasked with chasing 273, was off to a fiery start, thanks to openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan. The dynamic duo stitched together a monumental 156-run partnership in a mere 18.4 overs.

Rohit, in a league of his own, blazed through the Afghan bowlers, clocking a phenomenal 131 runs in just 63 balls. This tour-de-force performance by the Indian skipper saw him go past the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, cementing his place as the highest century-scorer in World Cup history.

Afghanistan’s spinner Rashid Khan finally put a dent in the Indian batting lineup, sending Kishan back to the pavilion. However, with the sturdy hands of veteran Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer on deck, India reached their target with a comfortable 15 overs to spare.

Earlier in the day, Afghanistan's innings, while starting shakily at 63-3, found stability in captain Hashmatullah Shahidi and Azmatullah Omarzai's bats. Their significant 121-run partnership steered the team towards a competitive total. Shahidi emerged as the top scorer for his side with a well-made 80, while the lower order injected the much-needed momentum during the death overs, taking Afghanistan’s score to 272-8.

India's pace spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah, was the standout performer with the ball, wreaking havoc on the Afghan batsmen and finishing with remarkable figures of 4-39 in his quota of 10 overs.
