Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan joined in the celebrations of Afghanistan's historic win over Pakistan at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai by dancing alongside Afghanistan's star cricketer Rashid Khan.

In a thrilling encounter at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, Afghanistan showcased their spirit and skill by defeating Pakistan by eight wickets, marking their second victory in the tournament and breaking a seven-match losing streak against the Men in Green.

After the match, Pathan took to the field to join in the jubilation with Rashid Khan and later shared a message for him on the social media platform ‘X.’

"Rashid Khan fulfilled his promise, and I fulfilled mine. Well done guys @ICC @rashidkhan_19,”  Irfan Pathan posted on ‘X.’

A viral clip on social media captures the heartwarming moment when Irfan and Rashid joyfully danced together. Their celebration occurred after Afghanistan's victory lap in Chennai, where they acknowledged the enthusiastic support of the crowd.

Historic night for Afghans in Chennai

In a game where they were asked to bowl first, young spinner Noor Ahmad made a significant impact for Afghanistan. This World Cup debutant displayed impressive skills on the spin-friendly Chennai pitch. Despite minimal turn, Noor's variations and consistent length troubled the Pakistani batters. He completed his ten overs with figures of 3/49, helping restrict Pakistan to 282/7 in their 50 overs.

Afghanistan's run chase was nothing short of clinical. They dominated the game from the start, preventing Pakistan from gaining a foothold at the Chepauk. Openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran provided a superb foundation with their solid opening partnership of 130 runs.

They effectively navigated the new ball threat and later launched a counter-attack against the Pakistani pacers. Once they were dismissed, senior players Rahmat Shah and skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi took charge, ensuring Afghanistan's victory without further setbacks.

This historic win propelled Afghanistan to the sixth position in the tournament's points table, with Pakistan sitting at the fifth position, albeit with a superior net run rate.

The joyous celebrations of Afghanistan's fans and players underscore the significance of this victory for the nation, especially after falling short against the same opposition on multiple occasions in the past.
