In a one-sided affair, hosts England handsomely beat visitors New Zealand in the first of three T20Is on Wednesday to take a 1-0 lead.

Stars for England in their seven-wicket win were Luke Wood, Brydon Carse, Dawid Malan, and Harry Brook. It was, however, all-rounder Liam Livingstone who stole everyone's thunder in the end by smashing a monstrous six to lift England to victory.

Malan slammed 42-ball 54, while Brook remained unbeaten on 43 off 27, including three sixes and two fours.

With the Three Lions still needing 24 to win, Livingstone walked in the middle and scored ten off 4, which included a humongous six off Adam Milne, that went into the crowd over the deep square-leg region, notching up a comfortable victory for the home-side.

Earlier, New Zealand asked to bat first, made just 139 runs, with Glenn Phillips top-scoring with 41. Debutant Carse has an impressive outing for England, claiming three wickets, while Wood rattled the Kiwi top-order with his destructive bowling, also picking a three-for.

New Zealand are being led by Tim Southee, who is standing in place of Kane Williamson, who is currently undergoing rehabilitation and is with the side in England.

The second T20I will be held on September 1 in Manchester, with Birmingham hosting the third and final match on September 3.
