Indian batsman KL Rahul is all set to make his return to competitive cricket during the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 in Sri Lanka. Days after getting selected for India’s World Cup 2023 squad, the cricketer joined the ‘Men in Blue’ camp ahead of the Super Four round, after a sore niggle injury had kept him out of team’s group stage matches.

Prior to the tournament, Rahul played his last competitive match during the IPL 2023 season while captaining his Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) outfit. The batting veteran sustained a thigh injury during the second half of the competition, and had to spend his subsequent months at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) alongside fellow injured men Jasprit Bumrah and Shreyas Iyer in a bid to attain full recovery.

KL Rahul all set to don Indian colours once again

KL Rahul’s thigh injury earlier this year kept him out of LSG’s backend set of matches in the IPL 2023 season. Moreover, the cricketer also missed out on some international action as he was excluded from India’s WTC 2023 final squad as well as from team’s subsequent all-format tour to West Indies.

Just as KL Rahul braced himself for a return to competitive cricket with India’s Asia Cup 2023 opening match against Pakistan, he was deemed unfit by the team management owing to a sore niggle injury he sustained back in Alur training camp last month.

The 31-year-old, all set and ready to roar, seems fitter than ever this time around as he was recently seen hitting the gym for an intense workout session.

Team India is set to face arch-rivals Pakistan once again, albeit in the Super Four round of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. The match, marking the team’s opening Super Four fixture, will be played on September 9 in Sri Lanka amidst a rain threat.

Rohit Sharma and Co. will subsequently face Asia Cup 2023 co-hosts Sri Lanka on September 12 and Bangladesh on September 15 to round up their share of matches prior to the September 17 final.
