The Indian cricket team, led by Rohit Sharma, returned home on Thursday morning with the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy, arriving in Delhi to a hero's welcome.

The special Air India flight, AIC24WC—Air India Champions 24 World Cup—landed in Delhi around 6:00 AM after a 16-hour non-stop journey. This marked the end of a four-day delay caused by Hurricane Beryl, which had stranded the team in their Barbados hotel.

As the players disembarked, thousands of fans gathered at Indira Gandhi International Airport to greet them despite a steady drizzle.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released a heartwarming video featuring star players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja unboxing the trophy on their flight back from Barbados.

The video shared by BCCI captured the jubilant moment when the team unboxed the trophy. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and others were seen kissing the trophy and holding it tenderly, almost like a small baby, before carefully placing it back in the box.

Their expressions of joy and pride were evident, reflecting the significance of their victory.

This win, achieved at Kensington Oval in Barbados, ended India's 13-year wait for a World Cup trophy. The Indian team defeated South Africa in a thrilling final, claiming their fourth overall World Cup title.

After landing, the team headed to ITC Maurya for a special reception. They are scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi for breakfast before flying to Mumbai for an open bus victory parade and a felicitation ceremony at Wankhede Stadium.
