‘Virat Kohli should play Zimbabwe series’, feels India’s selection committee

As we know, legendary Indian batter Virat Kohli has been going through an extremely rough patch in international cricket.

Since the beginning of 2020, Kohli has averaged just 33.55 across formats, indicating his prolonged abysmal run in the game he once ruled.

Kohli’s torrid phase continued in the recently concluded England tour, as he scored a mere 76 runs at a poor average of 12.66

The former Indian captain was recently rested from the West Indies tour as well.

India’s selection committee believe Kohli should play the Zimbabwe ODIs, starting just after the Caribbean tour.

Speaking to InsideSport, a selection committee member has said that they want the Delhi-born to play in the Zimbabwe series to regain his form before the upcoming Asia Cup

The official’s statements indicated that Kohli’s performance in the Zimbabwe series will have a significant say in his selection for the multinational event.

“Hopefully, the break allows him to rejuvenate mentally and get his form back. But without any competitive cricket, it will be difficult, and that is why we want him to play against Zimbabwe,” the committee member said.

“It’s his preferred format and will help him regain his form before the Asia Cup. We will take a final decision close to the selection,” he concluded.

India will tour Zimbabwe for a three-match ODI series next month. All fixtures are scheduled at the Harare sports club.
