'Schedule was horrendous so I retired from ODIs' - Kevin Pietersen

With the growing demand and ever-growing T20 leagues around the globe, workload management has become a debatable topic in the modern era.

The tight schedule has taken a toll on many cricketers recently, the latest casualty being England's Test skipper Ben Stokes.

Kevin Pietersen takes a dig at ECB

Former English cricketer Kevin Pietersen took to social media to take a dig at the ECB for their improper scheduling during his playing days.

In his recent tweet, Kevin Pietersen said, "I once said the schedule was horrendous and I couldn't cope, so I retired from ODI cricket & the ECB banned me from T20s too…………."

Although, Pietersen has talked about the situation in a light-hearted manner, but a lot of experts, including ECB's managing director of cricket, Rob Key, has said that there is a need to relook at the schedule going ahead.

Sustainability in the sport has always been an issue, teams are playing all three formats without proper rest, and essential players feel the need to consider their time ahead. With T20 leagues racking up, it won't be surprising that many players start giving up one format.
