USA have their eyes set at the 2022 T20 World Cup

Aaron Jones, the Vice captain of the USA cricket team looks forward to fulfilling his childhood dream to lead the USA side to their first ever T20 World Cup in Australia, later this year.

USA will have to find their way through a challenging qualifying tournament that will be held in Zimbabwe to qualify for the big event Down Under. They will have to finish in the top of Qualifier B that gets underway on Monday.

Jones and his men will have their task cut out as USA will be taking on Jersey, Singapore and hosts Zimbabwe in the group stage of the tournament that features a total of eight teams. The group stage will be followed by a do or die clash against a different opponent from the other group.

However, the Vice captain is confident of his team’s abilities as USA impressed one and all with their clinical performances in their two warm up matches against Jersey at the start of the month.

"If we could get to the World Cup so you get to the highest level of cricket, to compete with the West Indies, Australia, India, all the teams that are playing full member cricket for sure, it would open a lot of doors," Jones said.

"Not only for us but definitely for the youngsters coming up in the USA. We know for sure that the USA is a big, big market in terms of fans that watch and support cricket," Jones said. "It would definitely be a dream come true, I mean, the World Cup is the highest stage. I don't think you can get any bigger than a World Cup as a professional cricketer,” he further added.
