The India U19 team has suffered a major blow after five players were ruled out of the World Cup match against Uganda as they had tested positive for Covid-19.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is now planning to send a few players to the Caribbean islands as a backup, according to a Cricbuzz report.
The five players are Abhishek Porel (Bengal), Uday Saharan (Rajasthan), Rishith Reddy (Hyderabad), Ansh Gosai (Saurashtra), and PM Singh Yadav (Rajasthan) and will be joining the squad in Trinidad.
"The team management will take the final call if any of them will have to be included in the official squad," a BCCI official told the website.
"Out of the six players, who were isolated before the match against Ireland on Wednesday, only all-rounder Vasu Vats tested negative," an ICC source had earlier told PTI.
"One positive out of this unfortunate situation is that the 11 who played against Ireland have all tested negative," said the ICC source.
