Talented young batsman Tilak Varma recently opened up on how his Mumbai Indians' skipper Rohit Sharma helped him tackle the pressure situations during the recent IPL.
Varma, 19, was one of the few shining lights for the Mumbai Indians in the 15th season of the cash-rich league.
During a recent interaction with News24, Varma recalled the numerous conversations he had with Rohit with regards to his batting.
"Personally, I talked a lot with Rohit bhai about how to improve my batting. I had done well this season and my thinking process was to always do well for the team and win as much games as I can for them,”
In 14 games, Tilak managed 397 runs @ 36.09/131.2 with the help of two 50+ scores.
‘Rohit Bhai told me to back myself ‘- Tilak Varma
The IPL is a cauldron. The pressure is so immense that even the best in the business sometimes wilt under it.
Tilak also encountered such situations during the course of his campaign.
It is at this point that he sought Rohit's help. And the skipper urged him to keep backing himself and enjoy the game as much as possible.
"There were a few matches where I could not finish off. Afterwards, Rohit Bhai told me to back myself and as soon as I understood the situation better, it will automatically improve.” said Tilak.
While there is still a long way to go for that, Varma will look to continue his stellar run in the forthcoming domestic season and then in the IPL.
