Former India spinner Sunil Joshi is set to become the new bowling coach at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. The 55-year-old is expected to assume his command from October 1 onwards. Interestingly, Joshi’s new gig means that the former all-rounder will now be leaving his role at the Punjab Kings franchise vacant.
As per reports, the former RCB cricketer pipped multiple candidates to bag his new role at the BCCI CoE, overcoming the likes of Rakesh Dhruv and Nooshin Al Khadeer.
Sunil Joshi becomes bowling coach at BCCI CoE
Sunil Joshi will be replacing Sairaj Bahutale as the new spin bowling coach at the BCCI CoE in Bengaluru, from October 1 onwards, as reported by the Times of India. Joshi brings in a wealth of coaching experience on the table, having previously coached the Uttar Pradesh team in India’s domestic level as well as the Bangladesh national team as its spin bowling consultant.
Moreover, the former Indian cricketer recently served the Punjab Kings franchise as its spin bowling coach. Working alongside head coach Ricky Ponting, the Punjab Kings franchise celebrated one of their best seasons so far in IPL, reaching the final only to lose out to RCB in the title clash a couple of months ago.
The 55-year-old also recently accompanied the India A team during their unofficial games against Australia A at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow earlier this month.
As the spin bowling coach at the BCCI CoE, Sunil Joshi will be working closely alongside centre’s head and legendary batter VVS Laxman in a bid to nurture and groom the next generation of Indian spinners.
