Sri Lanka Cricket confirms postponement of LPL 2022 with immediate effect

In a dramatic turn of events, the third edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) has been postponed owing to the economic crisis prevailing in Sri Lanka.

This news was surfaced by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) via a press release. The official statement suggested that the board decided to postpone LPL 2022 following the reluctance of the tournament’s rights holders to host the mega-event amidst the economic crisis in the island nation.

However, there has been no tentative date mentioned for the commencement of the league, which means it’s not going to take place anytime soon.

“17th July 2022

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) wishes to announce that the Lanka Premier League 2022, which was scheduled to be held from 1st to 21st August 2022 will be postponed, with immediate effect.

This decision was taken by the SLC, following a request made by the Innovative Production Group FZE (IPG), the Rights Holder of the tournament, which cited the current ‘economic situation,’ in the country, as not conducive to hosting the tournament,” the official statement of SLC read.

Cricket has been the sole source of joy for the Sri Lankan fans amidst the political and economic turmoil. So, the postponement of the country’s most lucrative league is unfortunate, to say the least.
