Haryana continued it’s winning momentum as it defeated a much-fancied Delhi in one of the Group D encounters of the 2021 edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai. This is the second shocking result that the team has pulled off after beating Mumbai in their previous encounter. As of now, Mohit Sharma led Haryana is the only side that has remained unbeaten in the group that comprises domestic heavyweights like Mumbai and Delhi and a batting dynamite Kerala.
Chasing a target of 183, Haryana rushed to it in a hurry scoring 18 in two overs. I lost two quick wickets but didn’t let the run rate slow down. But after the loss of Chaitanya Bishnoi and two other quick wickets of Yashu Sharma and Shivam Chouhan, the Haryana team was in a spot of bother just when two experienced players in Rahul Tewatia and Rohit Sharma showed their class, building an unbeaten partnership of 78 in just 33 balls.
Winning the toss, Sharma invited his neighbors Delhi to bat first. The Haryana bowlers were up to the task right from the word go and dismissed the opposition skipper Shikhar who had been in scintillating form in the tournament for naught. Nitish Rana and Hiten Dalal then built the innings and added 103 for the third wicket in just 65 balls. But after thirty wickets in quick succession, the runs couldn’t come at that speed leading to Delhi making only 182 in their 20 overs.
In the other evening encounter, Vidarbha suffered their fourth defeat in a row as Services defeated them by eight wickets in Indore.
Brief Score: Vidarbha- 150-7 in 20 overs (Yash Rathod-36, Varun Choudhary- 3/31) beaten by Services - 153-2 in 17.2 overs (Lakahan Singh-66, AS Thakare- 1/32). Full Score Card here
