Sri Lankan batsman Kusal Mendis had to be hospitalized after leaving the field on Day One of the second Test in Dhaka against Bangladesh. Mendis was seen holding his chest while walking off the ground in the 23rd over of the day in the first session before the lunch session at the Shere Bangla National Stadium.
However, it was reported that he was suffering from muscle pain and the management had nothing to be scared about.
The 27-year-old Mendis was standing in the slips when he looked in discomfort, prompting the physios to rush in. Mendis scored 54 and 48 runs in the first Test for the Lankan Lions, which ended in a draw at Chattogram last week.
Sri Lanka had Bangladesh reeling at 24 for five after being asked to field first. Both sides made multiple changes to their playing XI from the last Test.
The hosts roped in Mosaddek Hossain and Ebadot Hossain for Shoriful Islam and Nayeem Hasan. While for Sri Lanka, Kasun Rajitha came in for the concussed Vishwa Fernando and Praveen Jayawickrama replaced Lasith Embuldeniya.
The innings was consolidated by Mushfiqur Rahim and keeper Liton Das, who ensured no other wickets fell before lunch. The pair safely took Bangladesh past the 100-run mark, adding 84 runs for the sixth wicket, batting 47* and 42*, respectively.
Mendis is playing his 51st Test for Sri Lanka, having made 3,180 runs at an average of 34.95. The right-hander has played 82 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 32 T20 Internationals (T20Is) for his country.
The tour has not been good for both sides, given the number of injuries seen across the two-Tests.
Bangladesh's Nayeem Hasan and Shoriful Islam were ruled out before the start of the Dhaka Test owing to finger and wrist injuries, each suffered in the first Test, respectively.
Sri Lankan Fernando, who suffered a concussion while fielding, was ruled out after being unable to recover in time.
