Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has struggled to find his form off late. His outing against Sri Lanka in T20Is was well below par coming into the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. The Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper couldn't get the ball rolling here as well, scoring a mere 268 runs in 14 games. Unsurprisingly, he was rested from the T20I series against South Africa, with KL Rahul taking over his role.
Speaking of Rohit, former India head coach Ravi Shastri has opined that he does not need a break to get back into scoring runs. "I do not think he (Rohit Sharma) needs a break. In the case of Virat, he had played every format for a year, year-and-a-half. In the case of Rohit, he has had breaks because of injuries. He did not go to South Africa; he missed half of the Australia tour," Shastri told official broadcasters ahead of MI's last game against Delhi Capitals (DC).
The former India head coach also described MI's journey this season, where they finished bottom of the points table with just 8 points.
"It is just a case of one of those seasons where nothing clicked from a team point of view. Rohit would get a break after 10 days, 14 days, and that is more than enough before going to England," he concluded.
In his last match this season, Rohit was out for 2 off Anrich Nortje's bowling. However, Mumbai managed to win the game thanks to a late blitz from Tim David to knock the Rishabh Pant-led side out of the playoffs.
Rohit will next be seen in action during India's tour of England in July. They will take on England for a one-off Test before the limited-overs leg kicks off.
