Scott Styris reciprocates R Ashwin, calls for complete ban on switch-hits

Switch-hits have sparked intense debate across the cricketing world. While some claim it as a display of batting excellence, others dispute it, saying it gives an unfair advantage to batters over the bowlers.

Not long ago, ace Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin said that the batsmen attempting this shot should be adjudged lbw if they miss out, even if the ball is pitching outside leg stumps.

Ashwin speaks his mind on switch-hits, watch video:

“Let batters play the switch hit, but give us LBW when they miss. How can you say it is not LBW when the batter turns? If they start giving that out in all formats of the game, some parity could be retained between bowling and batting.”

While speaking on Sports18Scott Styris said that he loved the points Ashwin made in his video but he disagreed with the solutions provided by the cricketer.

“So, I don’t think a batsman should be able to change his hands over and I don’t believe he should be able to change his feet. You can play the reverse sweep or the reverse hit if you like but I don’t like this. In terms of the hands, Kevin Pietersen has completely flipped around as a left-hander,” the New Zealander said.

While the shot has been used sparingly over the years, its modern-day introduction can be attributed to former England captain Kevin Pietersen.
