Saurashtra wicketkeeper-batsman, Avi Barot has succumbed to cardiac arrest on Friday, October 15 at his home in Ahmedabad. He was 29-year old and was part of the Saurasthra’s Ranji Trophy-winning team in the season 2019-20.
Barot made his first-class debut way back in 2011 and had also captained the India U-19 side the same year. Overall, he played 38 first-class games, 38 List A games and 20 T20 games for his sides that includes Haryana, Gujarat and Saurashtra.
The President of Saurashtra Cricket Association, Jaydev Shah, who also played his cricket with Barot expressed his shock and pain to hear the news of his demise. He called Barot a noble human being with great cricketing skills and remarkable performer for Saurashtra indecent years.
"This is absolutely shocking and painful to learn about Avi's sad demise. He was a great teammate and had great cricketing skills. In all recent domestic matches, he had performed remarkably well. He was a very friendly and noble human being. We all at Saurashtra Cricket Association are in deep shock,” Jaydev Shah said.
Earlier this year in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy game against Goa, Barot was at his best and had a match-winning hundred. However, he had gone unsold in this year’s auction for the Indian Premier League.
