In a major development that will come into effect after the conclusion of the upcoming T20 World Cup, former Indian captain Rahul Dravid has accepted the BCCI’s offer of a full-time coaching role with the Indian team, TOI reported.
He accepted the offer to become the head coach on the night of the IPL final when the BCCI president and his former colleague Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah held a meeting with him, the report added.
He will be signing up the contract for a period of two years and will draw an annual salary of Rs 10 crore from the BCCI.
“David has confirmed he will be the next head coach of the Indian team. He will be stepping down as the head of the NCA soon,” TOI quoted an unnamed BCCI official who is aware of the developments as saying.
Dravid will soon tender resignation from the post of the head of the National Cricket Academy and will form a team with his NCA lieutenant Paras Mhambrey as the bowling coach of the side, the report suggested further.
Vikram Rathour will continue with the side as the batting coach.
It was being reported that the BCCI would ask Dravid to be the interim coach for the home series against New Zealand that will start right after the World Cup, but signing him up for the full-time role augurs well for the side in the course of two years.
