Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder Andre Russell added yet another feather to his cap on Saturday (May 14) as he became the fastest (in terms of deliveries faced) to rack up 2000 plus runs in the Indian Premier League.
Russell achieved the milestone at the expense of the Sunrisers Hyderabad during his belligerent unbeaten knock of 49 off 28 deliveries at the MCA Stadium in Pune.
Russell has taken just 1120 deliveries to scale the 2000-run barrier and has overtaken former Indian opener Virender Sehwag's record.
Sehwag, who represented the Delhi Daredevils and Punjab Kings during his career, was the record-holder till now. The blistering opener took just 1211 deliveries for his 2000 runs.
Sehwag is followed by 'Universe Boss' Chris Gayle, who took 1251 deliveries for the same. They are followed by current Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant (1306) and RCB's Glenn Maxwell (1309).
Coming back to Russell, the West Indian cricketer has been in brilliant form this season, and he showcased another glimpse of it on Saturday.
The right-handed batsman smashed as many as three fours and four monstrous sixes to ensure that the Knight Riders ended up with 177/6 in 20 overs.
In 12 innings thus far, Russell has smoked 330 runs at an average of 41.25 and a staggering strike rate of 182.32 with one 50+ score.
In addition to this, he has also proved to be more than handy with the ball, having taken 15 wickets at 14.73 (at the time of writing).
He has also become the only cricketer to complete the double of 250+ runs and 10+ wickets in a single edition of the IPL in four different seasons, making him one of the greatest all-rounders to have ever graced this league.
Overall, Russell scored 2030 runs in 81 innings at a strike rate of 179.17 and took 87 wickets at 24.39.
