Lahore Qalandars, the defending champions of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), are set to organise the players' development program trials on 17th of this month.
This news was surfaced by the team's official twitter handle on Thursday (May 12) in a tweet that read, "The wait is over. Players' development program is coming soon. Don't miss the opportunity because your chance of becoming new Haris Rauf is here. Lahore Qalandars announce players' development program free trials on 17th May 2022."
The former English fast bowlers Darren Gough and Kabir Ali are going to attend the trials, and thus, they will play a vital role in selecting the players who will receive a one-year scholarship to train at the Qalandars high-performance centre.
To note, the players' development program is conducted by the Qalandars in order to unearth the fine cricketing talents of the country as it gives the chance of attending the free trials to the aspiring cricketers of the nation.
However, the trials couldn't be conducted in the last two years due to the covid-19 restrictions. So, the Qalandars' CEO, Mr Atif Rana, expressed his happiness on the resumption of the program that aims at finding out the best talents to serve Pakistan cricket.
"We were unable to do this program for the last two years becomes of COVID19-related restrictions, but now as things have improved, we believe that it is high time for us to resume the much-celebrated program and find more talented players to serve the country," Rana said.
On the other hand, the Qalandars' head coach Aqib Javed said that the program's primary objective is to find talented players and help them master their skills.
"The PDP is not just a talent hunt project; it is a complete development program which not only picks the talent but also transforms that talent into a performer", Javed said. "You've seen the example of Haris Rauf who was an unknown individual when he first arrived to appear in the trials and today he is one of the top performers in white-ball cricket," the 49-year-old concluded.
