Rahul Dravid is one of the finest Indian cricketers to ever play the game, and after his retirement he has now sealed his legacy as a World Cup winning coach as well. The coach-captain partnership between Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma worked wonders in the 2024 T20 World Cup, and the man has reaffirmed his position as one of the most respected cricketers in the world.

Now, the legendary Sunil Gavaskar has made a special demand to honour Rahul Dravid's contributions. Gavaskar in his column for Mid-Day has requested government of India to give Bharat Ratna to Rahul Dravid for his contributions for Indian cricket.

He wrote that Dravid has been a great player and a captain with away series wins in West Indies and England and has been a great talent groomer at NCA, in age-group cricket and as a head coach in the senior team.

"It would be apt if the Government of India honours him with the Bharat Ratna, for that's what he has truly been. Great player and captain of the country with famous away series wins in the West Indies when wins there really meant something and also win in England being only among the three Indian captains to have won a Test match series there, a wonderful talent groomer in his earlier role of the chairman of the National Cricket Academy and then as coach of the senior team."

Gavaskar also mentioned that Dravid's efforts have given happiness to the whole country across caste, creed and religion and he urged everyone to join him in convincing government for the highest civilian award to Rahul Dravid.

"Dravid's achievements have given joy across all party lines and across caste, creed, communities and brought untold happiness to the whole country. Surely, that deserves the highest accolade the country can give. C'mon everybody, please join me in asking the Government to recognise one of the greatest sons of India. Bharat Ratna, Rahul Sharad Dravid. Sounds terrific, doesn't it?"

Rahul Dravid has ended his tenure as Indian team's head coach after the victorious T20 World Cup campaign and is most likely to be replaced by Gautam Gambhir.
