In significant development, the much-awaited draft for the upcoming Pakistan Super League has began in Lahore. Multan Sultans, who were the runners-up in the PSL 2023, had the privilege of drawing the first platinum pick of this season. They decided to rope in David Willey, who is known for his exploits as a premier bowling all-rounder.
Speaking on Willey's inclusion, the Sultans' think tank hailed him for his incredible ability to make the new ball talk. They also explained why they needed a left-arm pacer in their playing XI for the upcoming season of the tournament.
Hailed for his new ball bowling, Willey has scalped 51 wickets at a strike rate of 16.9 in his 43-match-long T20I career for England. He has been a proven performer in the shortest format, picking 270 wickets at an economy of 7.88. Besides operating with the new ball, Willey brings multi-dimensional skills onto the table, being an able finisher down the order.
The left-arm pacer recently retired from international cricket following England's disastrous ODI World Cup campaign on Indian soil. Being a freelancer, Willey is expected to be available for the entire PSL season unless he sustains an injury.
