On Tuesday, October 7, the ICC took to social media platforms and announced the three nominees for the player of the month award for September. The International Cricket Council has picked the Indian duo of Abhishek Sharma and Kuldeep Yadav alongside Zimbabwe's Brian Bennett.
The past month saw several mouth-watering clashes, and the marquee event was the Asia Cup 2025, which featured eight teams. India emerged victorious for the ninth time, and Abhishek Sharma and Kuldeep Yadav were the main architects behind India's title win.
ICC Announces player of the month award nominees
For Zimbabwe, they had an important month too, as the African side featured in the CC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Regional Final, where Bennett's contribution helped Zimbabwe qualify for the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Let's also look at the contribution by each individual in the past month, which helped them earn the ICC player of the month award nomination.
1. Abhishek Sharma
The southpaw and India opener was the main force behind India's batting prowess during the Asia Cup 2025. The Men in Blue remained unbeaten in all of their seven matches, and Sharma ended up as the team's leading run-getter.
Sharma, who is the no. 1-ranked T20I batter in the world was named Player of the Tournament and smashed 314 runs in seven T20Is, which included three fifties with a staggering strike rate of 200.
2. Kuldeep Yadav
If Abhishek Sharma was doing the magic with the bat, then Kuldeep was the star with the ball. The left-arm mystery spinner won the MVP award for the Asia Cup 2025 and ended the tournament as the leading wicket-taker in Asia Cup history.
Kuldeep was on fire and took 17 scalps at an economy rate of 6.27. Further, his four-wicket haul in the final against Pakistan helped India bounce back in the match and snatched a victory out of the jaws of defeat.
3. Brian Bennett
Zimbabwe's Brian Bennett has taken the world by storm as the 21-year-old has scored a whopping 497 runs in scoring 497 runs in nine T20Is at an average of 55.22 and a strike rate of 165.66.
Bennett put his name on the world map and is now the top franchise across the world are with an eye on the youngster.
Women's Player of the Month award nominees announced
Besides men, the ICC also released the nominees for the women's player of the month award for September. Notably, Smriti Mandhana, Sidra Amin, and Tazmin Brits will fight for the prestigious award.
Smriti Mandhana
Mandhana had a great September as the southpaw piled up 308 runs in four ODIs in September at an average of 77 and a strike rate of 135.68.
Sidra Amin
Sidra Amin was Pakistan's best batter in the ODI series against South Africa, finishing as the leading run-scorer with 293 runs across three matches at an extraordinary average of 293. Notably, she remained unbeaten throughout the series.
Tazmin Brits
While Sidra Amin shone for Pakistan, Brits helped her team lift the trophy 2-1. The right-handed batter amassed 272 runs in two innings at a strike rate of 103.81, earning the Player of the Series award.
