Mumbai Cricket Association open to sponsorships for the 2022 edition of Kanga league

Dr HD Kanga league, Mumbai Cricket Association’s monsoon tournament since 1948 is all set to return after a break of two years due to COVID-19.

This will be the tournament’s 75th edition and it will start on 31st July this year. It will also indicate the start of Mumbai’s local cricket season.

Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) for the first time in the history of the tournament is open for sponsorships of the league. In 2008, a private firm did sponsor the league but that was out of its own goodwill.

MCA secretary, Sanjay Naik told, “Our marketing and tournament committee felt that we should have a sponsor for the Kanga league, so that the tournament is boosted, and the expenses of staging it are taken care of.”

He also added that with sponsorship money the association wants to provide better infrastructure and mobile medical assistance to the players of the Kanga League. Not just players, this decision will benefit the umpires, affiliated clubs, and scorers of the league.

For the 2022 edition, the Kanga league will have 14 teams. However, a proposal has been sent to MCA’s Apex Council for expanding the league in upcoming years.

If the MCA’s Apex Council gives a green signal, the 2023-24 edition of the Kanga league will have 16 teams and approximately 280 players will get a platform to showcase their talent.
