  • Eng Vs Ind India One Of Favourites To Win Icc T20 Wc 2022 Says Michael Vaughan

ENG vs IND | India one of favourites to win ICC T20 WC 2022, says Michael Vaughan

The Indian team under Rohit Sharma are displaying some exceptional cricket in the white-ball format on their ongoing England tour.

India won the T20I series and then crushed the English side in the first One-Day International (ODI) by ten wickets on Monday, taking a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan believes that the aggressive approach shown by India is crucial, keeping in mind the 2023 World Cup.

Speaking on Cricbuzz, Vaughan said, "Conditions will be different in a year and a half's time (for the ODI World Cup), but India have just got to get on a roll in white-ball cricket. They've just got the build that momentum, they've done that in the T20 series in the manner that they've played.

"We talk about aggression, they were aggressive with the ball today, and they were aggressive on the field. That's what you've got to do when you've things going in your favour, you've got to blow teams away. England are an outstanding team, so that should give India a lot of confidence."

The outfit, which boasts Jason Roy, Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, and Ben Stokes, were bundled out for 110 in the first ODI, courtesy of an excellent spell from Jasprit Bumrah, who claimed six wickets for 19.

Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan completed the chase, taking India past 111 in 18.4 overs.

One of the clear favourites to win: Vaughan

Ashes-winning captain Vaughan credited the Indian Premier League (IPL) for developing white-ball players who look to dominate regardless of the conditions. That places India as clear favourites to lift the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 Trophy Down Under in October-November.

"I've said before, this Indian one-day team for long haven't gotten close to winning anything for a long period of time. They should be there or there about every single Champions Trophy, T20 World Cup, and ODI World Cup.

"This Indian group of white-ball experts that have been built on the back of IPL, should be pushing all the way in all conditions world. Not just at home next year. They should be able to arrive in Australia in a few months' time as one of the clear favourites to win that tournament. They've certainly got enough skill," the 47-year-old concluded.

The second ODI will be played at Lord's this evening.
