In a massive setback for team India, ace speedster Mohammed Shami is set to be ruled out of the upcoming Test series against South Africa due to injury. As reported by Cricbuzz, the veteran pacer is yet to recover from an ankle injury he sustained during the 2023 World Cup, which is why he could miss the the two-match series against the rainbow nation.

As mentioned in the report, Shami won’t likely travel with the Indian contingent, led by Rohit Sharma, to South Africa on Friday. Besides Rohit, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, R Ashwin, Navdeep Saini and Harshit Rana will fly to South Africa via Dubai.

The BCCI hasn’t formally named Shami’s replacement yet, but it’s expected that one of the pacers, present in India’s white-ball squad, could replace him in the Test squad.

Shami’s absence is a significant blow to India, as he has stellar numbers against the host nation in their backyard. In eight Tests on African soil, Shami has 35 wickets under his name at a magnificent strike rate of 44.66. In his absence, young pacer Prasidh Krishna seems to be the front-runner for the third seamer's role.
