Australia takes early command over Pakistan off the back of a scorching David Warner century on Day 1 of their three-match series.


David Warner pounds Pakistan with 164

David Warner launched his farewell Test series with a sizzling century, the 26th of his career, after he shared a 126-run opening stand with Usman Khawaja (41).

Warner reached his landmark figure in just 125 deliveries within the second session of the day, and pumped out 164 runs in all with 16 elegant boundaries and four authoritative sixes to his name.

Marnus Labuschagne sustained a rare failure with the bat after he was trapped in front by Faheem Ashraf for just 16, and his subsequent dismissal was succeeded by Warner’s belligerent stands with Steve Smith and Travis Head.

Pakistan’s Test debutants Khurram Shahzad and Aamer Jamal managed to pick up key wickets throughout the day, including the prized scalps of Smith (31) and Head (40) amidst Warner’s run-fest from the other end.

Mitchell Marsh and Alex Carey ensured Australia did not have to endure another casualty in the final 10 overs of the day as the two cricketers batted out till stumps to their side to 346-5.

Facing just 84 overs on Day 1, the hosts maintained an attacking run-rate of 4.11.
