Real reason revealed why Rizwan was dropped [Source: AP Photo]
Pakistan cricket is always involved in controversy and the latest one was their shambolic exit from the Champions Trophy 2025. Pakistan were the host nation, but the Mohammad Rizwan led side crashed out after losing to New Zealand and India, with their game against Bangladesh getting abandoned due to rain.
The Men in Green had a great ODI run prior to the Champions Trophy but they couldn't replicate the same form and it drew widespread criticism within the PCB. After the Champions Trophy exit, PCB moved forward and announced the ODI and T20I squad for the New Zealand tour and it raised an eyebrow.
Why Rizwan was dropped, reason revealed
Mohammad Rizwan, who was the T20I captain was dropped from the team and his captaincy was also taken away. Now, the real reason has been revealed as to why the captaincy was snatched. As per Cricket Pakistan, after the loss Vs India, Rizwan gathered all the players and stated that winning and losing is a part of the game, and the players and coaches won't be affected. Instead, the coaches and selectors will be sacked.
This didn't go well with PCB officials, as Mohsin Naqvi, instead of sacking the selectors decided to drop Mohammad Rizwan from the T20I side Vs New Zealand.
Rizwan's T20I numbers aren't promising either
His statement might have affected his T20I place, but the stats also don't lie. In 106 T20Is, Rizwan has scored 3414 runs, at an average of 47, but the glaring weakness is his strike-rate, which is just around 125.37.
Pakistan want to formulate a new template going forward and Rizwan doesn't fit in the T20I scheme of things.
