Australian batter Marnus Labuschagne is all set to return to County Cricket with Glamorgan for a short but important stint ahead of the World Test Championship (WTC) final in June. Labuschagne will play two County Championship matches, against Northamptonshire and Middlesex.
The WTC 2025 final will be played between Australia and South Africa at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London from June 11-15. The Aussies are defending champions and will aim to make it two in a row.
Moreover, ahead of the big title fight, a key top-order batter from Australia started his preparations.
Marnus Labuschagne Returns To County Cricket
To prepare for the WTC 2025 Final, Australia’s quality middle-order batter Marnus Labuschagne has joined County Cricket. He has signed up for Glamorgan, marking his fifth straight season with the English club.
He will play only 2 games against Northamptonshire and Middlesex, both to be held at Sophia Gardens, starting May 16 and May 23.
Last year, he played just 4 matches but made a big impact, scoring 2 centuries and as many fifties. His return will be crucial preparation as he looks to find form before the high-pressure WTC final, where Australia will face South Africa.
The 30-year-old’s Test batting average, once close to 60, has dipped to 46.76. He hasn’t scored a Test hundred in nearly 2 years and will be eager to fix that. This County stint offers him a perfect chance to regain confidence and rhythm ahead of a huge match for Australia.
Josh Hazlewood Likely To Give Up IPL For WTC Final
In a major setback for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), pacer Josh Hazlewood is reportedly doubtful for the remainder of IPL 2025 due to a shoulder injury. With the IPL set to resume in mid-May, Hazlewood may prioritise national duties as Australia prepares for the WTC final.
Cricket Australia is expected to pull him out for a conditioning camp ahead of the marquee event. Notably, IPL was suspended following escalating border tensions between India and Pakistan. However, after the ceasefire agreement, the tournament could likely resume next week.
