Marizanne Kapp ruled out of Commonwealth Games 2022

Veteran South African all-rounder Marizanne Kapp is set to miss the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022 starting later this week in Birmingham.

However, Cricket South Africa has reckoned that Kapp's availability for the Games is yet to be confirmed.

On the other hand, head coach Hilton Moreeng has said that the all-rounder is not expected to join the team immediately.

With the CWG scheduled to conclude on August 8, it will undoubtedly be a race against time for Kapp.

Earlier, the experienced all-rounder's England tour was cut short as she returned home to see her brother-in-law, who suffered severe injuries in an accident.

Kapp featured in a one-off Test match of the same series played last month and top-scored with 193 runs.

In three games of the ODI series, the 32-year-old contributed 147 runs and scalped a single wicket.

Proteas Women hit with injury blows and bad form

South Africa are suffering from bad form and injuries of their key players, Sune Luus and Shabnim Ismail.

Ismail, the strike bowler for the team in recent years, managed to take only two wickets in the ODI series at a dismal average of 59.

Luus' scores in the white-ball leg read 1,0, 9, 4, and 7, reflecting her abysmal form. The experienced campaigner hasn't delivered a single ball since the practice match ahead of the tour. Also, she missed the final game of the T20I series due to a finger injury.

In such a scenario, Kapp's absence has further weakened the Proteas Women's team.

South Africa will begin their CWG campaign against New Zealand on July 30.
