West Indies are going through a tough Test series in India, and now their premier pacer, Jayden Seales, has been punished by the ICC. Jayden Seales has been fined for 25 percent of the match fee for a level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during the second Test between India and West Indies.

Jayden Seales handed one demerit point

The level 1 breach carries a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of the player's match fee and one or two demerit points, while the minimum punishment is an official reprimand. Jayden Seales has also been handed one demerit point along with a fine. The pacer now has two demerit points in his kitty in the last 24 months with the previous point coming during a Test match against Bangladesh.

The incident happened during the opening day of the Test match. During the 29th over of India's batting innings, Jayden Seales threw a ball towards Yashasvi Jaiswal after collecting it on his follow-through. The ball hit Yashasvi Jaiswal on the pads, and though there was not much tension between the West Indian pacer and Indian batter, the match referee, Andy Pycroft, levelled the charge.

Jayden Seales contested the decision by mentioning that he was trying to run out Yashasvi Jaiswal. However, Andy Pycroft, after watching replays from different angles, labelled the throw as unnecessary and inappropriate. Seales has been found guilty of breaching Article 2.3 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which says that “throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment) at or near a player in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match.”

On the cricketing front, Jayden Seales has not been able to make an impact in Indian conditions and has went wicketless in the first innings of the Delhi Test.
