The West Indies are set to travel to India to play a 2-match Test series, starting on October 2. The matches will be played in Ahmedabad and Delhi. Since the series falls under the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle, it will be crucial for both teams, especially the West Indies, which have yet to win a match.
Ahead of the series, CWI announced the squad a few days back. The talking point was the inclusion of four pace bowlers, while Indian pitches offer a lot to the spinners. Answering all the questions, West Indies head coach Darren Sammy gave detailed information as to why four pacers were included in the squad.
Darren Sammy Believes In Their Strong Pace Attack
As reported by the Indian Express, the West Indies head coach, Darren Sammy, spoke about Shamar Joseph, Alzarri Joseph, and Jayden Seales and their bowling style. He details why they deserved to be on the team and how helpful the pacers are most likely to be on the Indian pitches.
“In our fast-bowling department, we’ve got four different guys who have their own variety. You have Shamar Joseph, who’s very skiddy, Jayden, who has a strong front leg and can swing the ball both ways, then you have Alzarri Joseph with his height and the bounce he could extract. So, again, we take confidence in that, especially the way they’ve been bowling over the last year,” said Sammy as quoted by the Indian Express.
Sammy also said that he has confidence on the bowlers to take 20 wickets in the Test series against India. He has shown great confidence in the bowlers despite knowing that Indian pitches are mostly favorable for the spinners. While cricket experts and pundits question the Board’s decisions, Darren Sammy’s men will be tested by the Indian batters in the series.
“The ability to take 20 wickets, because that’s what you will need in India. If you can’t take 20 wickets in India, you are on the back foot, and we have a bowling line-up of that, especially from the seam department, that could take 20 wickets. I have full confidence in that, and it makes me smile knowing that we go out bowling and we take 20 wickets. And that’s the first objective in the Test match,” added Sammy.
When Will India’s Squad Be Announced?
While the West Indies have already announced their Test squad, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet revealed the dates for announcing India’s squad. With the series set to start in less than two weeks, the fans can expect the squad anytime soon.
Moreover, there is less chance of any changes being made to the previous squad that traveled to England since the players were outstanding throughout the series. However, all eyes will be on the selection of Karun Nair because of his poor performance in England.
