Jay Shah Confirms Possible Changes To World Cup Schedule After Full Member Boards' Objection

On Thursday, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah confirmed to the media that as many as three-member boards have registered their objection against the 2023 World Cup schedule to the International Cricket Council.

Reports have been rife in the cricketing circles over the course of the last few days that the iconic India v Pakistan game, which was initially scheduled to take place in Ahmedabad on October 15, could be shifted to October 14.

The reason cited behind the last-minute change is that the security force may not be able to provide complete security during such a high-profile fixture as the match date coincides with the Hindu festival Navratri.

While Shah didn't confirm the development, he did accept that possible changes to the World Cup schedule may be on the way after three member boards registered their objection with the ICC about the dates. He, however, confirmed that no changes will be made to the previously assigned venues.

"Three ICC full members have made objections to the schedule, there will be some changes in the World Cup schedule but not the venue," said Jay Shah as quoted by PTI.

The changes to the schedule are likely to create a panic among travelling fans and broadcasters, who have been making suitable arrangements ever since the venue and dates were released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The 2023 ICC Men's World Cup is currently slated to take place across the length and breadth of India between October 05-November 2023.
