In what comes as massive news for Test cricket followers, the veteran English pacer James Anderson, returns to county cricket after missing most of the season due to a calf injury. The legendary fast bowler will be playing for his county side, Lancashire, in their upcoming match against Derbyshire.

James Anderson Returns To Red-Ball Cricket

After bidding goodbye to international cricket back in July 2024 against the West Indies at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground, James Anderson, who loves red-ball cricket, will be playing for his beloved county side, Lancashire. Anderson was slated to feature in the entire season for the side but missed out due to a calf injury that kept him out of action for the past five games.

It is worth noting that Lancashire are languishing at the bottom of the table in County Championship Division Two, having lost one game, and drawn four of them, with 50 points overall to their name and a net run rate of -1.183.

Anderson is currently playing for Lancashire in their sixth game against Derbyshire, at the Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester, from the 16th to 20th of May.

Moreover, Lancashire will now be led by Marcus Harris, who will be the interim captain for the side after Keaton Jennings stepped down, courtesy of a disastrous campaign as they were unable to register a single victory under his leadership.

The club has been in some trouble this season, as they have been below par with their performance on the field, which is why Anderson's comeback could prove crucial for the side as they will look to turn their fortune around in their upcoming games.

James Anderson Stats

Born in Burnley, Lancashire, the 42-year-old Anderson was one of the key players for England during his prime, where he featured in 188 Test matches, scalping 704 wickets at an average of 26.45, with an economy of just 2.79.

Talking about the game, Lancashire were asked to bat first against Derbyshire in this encounter, where they are off to a horrible start already with two down for just 11 runs in their nine overs, with Keaton Jennings and Josh Bohannon already back in the pavilion, while Luke Wells and Marcus Harris stay at the crease by the time of writing.
