IPL 2022 | ‘We don’t wanna just throw him in and damage him’ – Fleming on U19 WC famed Hangargekar

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) performed poorly in the Indian Premier League 2022. The four-time and defending champions were able to win only two of the eight matches. In addition, injuries have had an impact on the team balance.

In the IPL mega auction, the Super Kings bought Rajvardhan Hangargekar, the Under-19 World Cup winner, for Rs 1.5 crore. The all-rounder was touted in the first match playing XI, but the youngster is still waiting for a chance.

Stephen Fleming, the head coach of the Chennai Super Kings, has revealed the real reason behind why the U19 World Cup-winning maestro is not getting a chance in the IPL.

“You have to be very careful. I know he’s (Rajvardhan) performed at the Under-19 level, but this is a step up,” Fleming stated on CSK’s official website.

“We’re very conscious of the skills that he needs to perform. We don’t wanna just throw him in and damage him. We want to make sure we realise the potential that he’s got,” CSK head coach added further.

“He’s on an excellent program with us. He’s played some big games already. If the opportunity arises this year, we’ll put him in. The pace is one thing; how to use it and bowl on the big stage is very important. We’re not gonna mess around with a talent like him,” the former CSK opener praised the talented all-rounder.

The Ravindra Jadeja-led unit are currently having one of their devastating seasons ever. The second-most successful franchise haven’t theoretically been knocked out of the tournament, but they will have to win six out of six fixtures remaining. They next play Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 1.

Wish Afghanistan and UAE help each other rise together: Younis Khan

Former Pakistan batsman Younis Khan has thanked Emirates Cricket Board for its assistance to Afghanistan cricket. Younis, who is currently with the Afghanistan cricket team as a batting consultant in the ongoing 23-day camp in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has praised the gulf nation for its constant support of Afghanistan cricket and has hoped for the growth of both these countries as two great cricketing nations by mutual cooperation. "Thank you to Abu Dhabi Cricket and UAE cricket; they're helping Afghanistan cricket. They were helping the Pakistan cricket team for long periods, now Afghanistan. So, I hope the bonding is there, and it's my wish that UAE and the Afghanistan Cricket Board gel together, they help each other, and they rise together", Younis was quoted as saying by 'The National News'. Following a horrific terror attack on the Sri Lankan team bus in 2009, Pakistan was sidelined by all touring countries owing to security issues. In the tough days, UAE came forward to help the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) by providing its grounds to host Pakistan's home matches. As a result, Pakistan adopted UAE as its home for more than a decade, which developed a beautiful bond between the two corresponding cricket boards. Remembering those days, Younis said that UAE has always given the feel of home because of the similarity in the weather and pitch conditions. Apart from that, one can find many people from Pakistan and Afghanistan in UAE, a fact that never lets the players from these two countries feel alienated. Further, the legendary cricketer with 118 Test caps revealed that this gathering in the holy month of Ramzan had brought the entire unit together. Elaborating, Younis said that they pray and dine together, which has played a significant role in strengthening team bonding. "The holy month of Ramadan provides much bonding for the team because you have Iftari, and then you have Sehri," Younis said. "You pray together, so these kinds of things are good for the team and, especially if you're away from home, you need this kind of bonding", the 44-year-old concluded.
