IPL 2022 | Rovman Powell finishes off it in style, thanks franchise for giving the long rope

Rovman Powell, on Thursday (April 28) night, drove the Delhi Capitals (DC) to victory with all his might. Even though they had a rough start and lost their opening batters early, DC beat the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by four wickets.

While chasing, the Capitals lost both David Warner and Lalit Yadav in the span of 9 deliveries. After a while, Rishab Pant too was caught behind the stumps, courtesy of Umesh Yadav.

Chasing a target of 147 looked like a mirage after Delhi lost its important batters, but then came the West Indies batter into bat to prove his worth to his franchise. Powell admitted that he was tense during the first part of the game.

“It was a simple situation that required you to play singles early. Once you get the singles early, the boundary balls will always come. It was not that difficult of a situation. I played it well,” recalled the DC finisher in a post-match conference.

The burly batter stated that he had a tough start in the IPL but felt in-form, and the team reassured him that he would play every match.

“The team - the captain, coach - rallied around me and told me that I’ll play all the games. So just relax, just to play cricket and to enjoy it."

Delhi’s skipper Rishab Pant stated that the franchise management had picked Powell as a designated finisher. Even though he had a rough start, Powell accomplished his mission as the DC finisher.

The Capitals are set to clash with the Lucknow Super Giants on May 1 at Wankhede Stadium.
