IPL 2022 | 'I am sure they will get back in form' - Ganguly on Kohli, Rohit Sharma

The two most celebrated cricketers of this generation in India, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been disappointing with their performances in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League. While Kohli has 128 runs in 9 innings at an average of 16, Sharma has piled up 153 runs in 8 appearances at an average of 19.13.

With Kohli’s failures, Royal Challengers Bangalore have fallen off the cliff in the past week with two losses on the trot; whereas, the five-time champions are yet to open their account this year.

In the latest interaction with News18, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has opined that both Kohli and Sharma are great players and will surely be back in form. He hopes the former RCB captain clears his head and gets back to scoring the bulk of runs for the franchise and the Indian team.

“They are great players, and I am sure they will get back in form. I hope they start scoring runs soon. I don’t know what is going on in Virat Kohli’s head, but I am sure he will regain his form and get some good runs. He is a great player,” Ganguly cited.

It is evident the form of both players will be critical for the Indian team, with T20 World Cup scheduled later this year.

The BCCI President, meanwhile, hailed the performances of Umran Malik, Umesh Yadav, and Khaleel Ahmed in the IPL 2022. He reckoned that Malik has been the outstanding face of the league, with his express pace and aggression.

“Umran Malik’s bowling has been eye-catching. Umesh Yadav too has bowled well and so has Khaleel Ahmed. I would say Umran Malik has been the outstanding face of the league so far,” he added.

Further, the former India captain was asked about the arrangements made by the BCCI to handle the fourth coronavirus wave, and if bio-bubbles will remain in the future edition of IPL.

“If the Covid cases do not rise in the country, bio-bubbles may not be required in the IPL. But we will have to wait and watch for how long will they will be able to play in one place. Covid is here to stay – it will be around for another 10 years, so we have to live with it,” the veteran batter concluded.
