  • Ipl 2022 Ravi Shastri Expresses Displeasure Over Kolkatas Decision To Bench Pat Cummins

IPL 2022 | Ravi Shastri expresses displeasure over Kolkata’s decision to bench Pat Cummins

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have been baffling fans and experts with their T20 approach of late. Currently placed seventh in the points table with 10 points, the Shreyas Iyer-led side has a lot to ponder.

On Monday (May 9) evening, Pat Cummins wreaked havoc over the Mumbai Indians, keeping his team’s hopes alive in the tournament. And after former Team India coach Ravi Shastri expressed his distress for KKR’s decision to bench Cummins.

While talking to NDTV, Shastri quipped, “Shukar hai khilaya Pat Cummins ko. Pata nahi kya kar raha tha bench par baith kar garam kar raha tha seat 4-5 match se. Aisa player jo number one fast bowler hai world mein, World Cup winner hai, captain hai Australia ka, bench par baitha rahe ho.”

(Thankfully, they played Pat Cummins. Don’t know what he was doing on the bench, warming the seat for 4-5 matches. A player who is the number one fast bowler in the world, a World Cup winner, and captain of Australia, was made to sit on the bench).

Cummins came into the IPL after guiding Australia to a Test series win over Pakistan in Pakistan on the back of sensational bowling displays.

However, KKR preferred New Zealand’s Tim Southee ahead of Cummins, who picked up 12 wickets at a miserly economy rate of 7.22 from seven games.

The Kolkata-based franchise was off to a good start, winning three out of four games, including a win over Mumbai Indians, courtesy of Cummins. Although since then, their campaign has gone in one direction, and that is south.

Now, Kolkata’s last two games will be against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants, respectively.

CSK pacer Simarjeet Singh recalls snub from the U-19 Asia Cup squad

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pacer Simarjeet Singh has recently recalled his ordeal when he was dumped out of India's squad for U-19 Asia Cup at the last moment. In a video uploaded by the CSK's official Twitter handle, Simarjeet recalled how he was left disheartened and depressed when he got a call ahead of the U-19 Asia Cup about his snub. The Delhi pacer got omitted from the squad at the final moment because he had already featured in the previous edition of the same tournament. U-19 cricketers can't feature in successive editions of a particular multi-national tournament according to rules. Nevertheless, the development left the young seamer discouraged, and his parents did everything at the time to lift his morale. "There was this one time, I was selected to play for India in the Asia Cup at the Under-19 level. The team was about to depart for the Asia Cup. Just one day before our departure, I received a call telling me that I cannot go to the Asia Cup," "It's because of some strange rule that barred those who played at the Under-19 level the previous year from playing again this year. Since I played at the Under-19 level the previous year, the selector cancelled my selection," he revealed. "I was supposed to take a flight early the following morning and I got a call very late at night telling me that I was no longer a part of the team. This disheartened me but my parents tried to pacify me by telling me that I should be proud to have gotten where I have," Singh added. Singh has come a long way since that snub. The Super Kings picked the right-arm pacer at a base price of INR 20 Lakh in the recent mega-auction. He has featured in three games thus far and has claimed two wickets. Singh's best performance so far has come against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he finished with match-winning figures of 2/27 in four overs.
