IPL 2022| Pant, Shardul, Pravin Amre reprimanded for breaching IPL Code of Conduct

Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant, all-rounder Shardul Thakur and assistant head coach Pravin Amre have been reprimanded for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Friday’s (April 22) fixture against the Rajasthan Royals.

The encounter between Delhi and Rajasthan proved to be a high-scoring thriller, with the Sanju Samson-led unit eventually winning the match by 15 runs.

However, the game didn’t end without its fair share of controversies. It all happened on the third delivery of the last over bowled by Obed McCoy when Rovman Powell smashed the third consecutive six to keep his side in contention.

The problem was that it was a waist-high full-toss, but umpire Nitin Menon didn’t adjudge it no-ball. This angered the Delhi think-tank to such an extent that captain Pant asked his batters to leave the field before assistant coach Pravin Amre stormed into the field to chat with the umpire.

The umpire refused to go for the replays. After an ugly altercation between Jos Buttler and Pant, the game finally got resumed, with McCoy sealing the match with the wicket of Powell on the final delivery.

As a result, Pant has been fined 100% of his match-free for breaching the Code of Conduct.

A statement released by the IPL Governing Council read, “Delhi Capitals captain, Rishabh Pant has been fined 100 per cent of his match fee for breaching the TATA Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Rajasthan Royals at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.”

“Mr Pant admitted to the Level 2 offence under Article 2.7 of the IPL Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction.”

Meanwhile, Amre has not only been fined 100% of his match fee but he has also been handed a one-match ban.

“Pravin Amre, Assistant Coach, Delhi Capitals, has been fined 100 per cent of his match fee for breaching the TATA Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Rajasthan Royals at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. He will also face a one-match ban for the offence.”

The statement added, “Mr Amre admitted offence Level 2 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction.

Shardul, on the other hand, has been reprimanded for using unacceptable language during the encounter.

The all-rounder has been fined 50% of his match fee. In addition, he has been booked under Level 02 offence under Article 2.8 of the Code of Conduct.

“Shardul Thakur from Delhi Capitals has been fined 50 per cent of his match fee for breaching the TATA Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Rajasthan Royals at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.”

“Mr Thakur admitted to the Level 2 offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction.”

Meanwhile, Delhi have now lost four of their first seven fixtures, and the 2020 runners-up will look to address their fledgling ship when they take on the Kolkata Knight Riders on April 28.
