IPL 2022 | MI vs CSK | Top Players on this venue, Must Picks

The El-Clasico of IPL is here. Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings has been a mouth-watering encounter over the years. The two teams have been fierce rivals for a long time and are IPL’s two most consistent teams (although this year is an exception). The cricketing world has seen these two battle it out four times in an IPL final - 2010, 2013, 2015 and 2019. Chennai won the encounter once in 2010, whereas Mumbai Indians dominated them in 2013, 2015 and 2019.

Talking about fantasy, both the teams have some fantastic assets to have a place in your squad. We bring you our analysis of some of these players who should be a part of your fantasy 11.

Top Players on this venue (IPL 2022 performances)

Mumbai Indians have played a single game at this venue (day game vs Rajasthan). On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings have played two games in D.Y.Patil Stadium (one day game against Sunrisers Hyderabad and one evening game against Royal Challengers Bangalore)

Jasprit Bumrah had a pretty impressive outing last time in D.Y.Patil. He picked up three wickets for 17 runs at an impressive economy of 4.25 runs per over. Even though his form has dipped since, taking only a single wicket in the last four games, we can always expect Bumrah to break the stumps!

Maheesh Theekshana’s last outing in D.Y.Patil was a memorable one. He picked up four wickets against RCB in a run feast. The off-spinner dismissed both the openers in Faf Du Plessis and Anuj Rawat. His other two scalps were in-form Shahbaz Ahmed and Suyash Prabhudessai. Theekshana also picked up two wickets in the last game, which means he has six wickets in three games played for CSK.

Must picks

Suryakumar Yadav's last four scores have been- 52 (36), 68 (37), 43 (30) and 37 (27). So irrespective of the pitch conditions, you can always back Suryakumar Yadav or SKY to come out on top.

DJ Bravo, the highest wicket-taker in all T20, is another top pick. The West-Indian has ten wickets in 6 games and is likely to do the damage today as well. He has 180 IPL wickets to his name, which shows his credibility and consistency as a bowler.

Robin Uthappa has been impressive this season. He has shown that age is just a number and has scored 197 runs this season in 6 games. He also has an average of 51.5 runs at this venue this season, making him one of our must pick.

Shivam Dube, the youngster has shown promising signs of form. He bats at number 4 for CSK, and with Gaikwad and Moen Ali looking out of touch, it gives Dube significant time to show his worth on the pitch. The left-handed batsman has 226 runs this season with the highest score of 95. He also has an average of 49 in his last two games at this venue.

Pitch Report: D.Y.Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai will host this fixture.

Teams batting first have defended the totals in 5 out of the 11 games played. The dew is not very significant on this ground, which opposes the general trend of IPL, where teams who win the toss choose to bowl first. The last 3-evening matches have been won by the team batting first. Therefore, do not limit yourself to picking bowlers from the team bowling first. However, fast bowlers will get some assistance since the pitch has a decent bounce. We can expect a score of anything between 154 to 173 runs.

'There is a lot more cricket left in Pollard': Sunil Narine on Pollard's retirement

On Wednesday, the West Indies limited-overs team captain, Kieron Pollard, announced his retirement from international cricket. He finished with 224 appearances across ODIs and T20Is, with a total of 4275 runs under his belt, including three centuries. Pollard led the West Indies team to a 3-2 series victory against England earlier this year and has undoubtedly ended his career on a high. Talking about Polly's retirement, West Indies and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) spinner Sunil Narine reckoned that he would have given so much more to the West Indies cricket in terms of leadership and finishing capabilities. "It's sad, I think he has much more to give to the West Indies, but I think he himself has to know when it's time, and that's what is important," said Narine in a video posted by Trinbago Knight Riders on Instagram. The players feature together for the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Narine has been featuring for TKR since 2016, while the franchise availed the services of Pollard in 2019. Also, the two have represented Trinidad and Tobago for several years together. "I wish him all the best in his future endeavours and whatever tournament he is playing, and I'm sure he will have lots of success. He still has a good fan base, and I hope he enjoys it," Narine added. The wily spinner feels Pollard is loved by many in the West Indies, but he knows about himself the best. The spinner further thinks Pollard will focus on playing more franchise T20 leagues worldwide. "They love to see him play in West Indies, but he knows best. So I think he will focus more on T20 cricket around the world, and I think he enjoys it a lot," the tweaker added. In the last part of the video, Narine is hopeful that it's not the end of Pollard's career and will continue to excite the cricket fans in the coming years. "There is a lot more cricket in Pollard. But, it's not the end, and I am definitely sure that there is more excitement to come," Narine concluded. Over the years, Pollard has proved himself in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with his ball-striking capabilities and has been one of the key performers to help the Mumbai Indians (MI) team clinch trophies on five occasions. However, he has been able to score only 82 runs in six innings of the ongoing edition of IPL.
