IPL 2022 | Matthew Hayden impressed with Samson's rotation of bowlers this season

Former Australian opener-turned commentator Matthew Hayden is impressed with the way Rajasthan Royals' skipper Sanju Samson has rotated his bowlers in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).

The Royals have been one of the most dominant sides of the season so far and while the likes of Jos Buttler, Shimron Hetmyer and Sanju Samson have spearheaded the batting-unit with disdain, it's their power packed bowling attack that has proved to be the difference this time around.

In the last game, the Royals successfully defended a seemingly under-par total of 145 against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, with Kuldeep Sen (4/20), Ashwin (3/17) and Prasidh Krishna (2/23) leading the assault.

Speaking to the host broadcaster, Hayden said the consistency with which Samson is rotating his bowlers in the ongoing season is second to none.

Hayden said, "What’s impressed me the most about Sanju Samson is the way he’s rotated his bowlers. I think their bowling group is second to none in this competition.

Despite the coin toss not going in the favour of Sanju Samson (on so many occasions), his bowlers are accessing some fantastic areas and their lines and lengths (are brilliant) obviously. The real consistency with which Sanju Samson has been rotating his bowlers is brilliant.”

One of the biggest differences in the Royals' set-up is the presence of leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who, Ravi Shastri has hailed as the unsung hero of Indian cricket.

Chahal has already claimed 18 wickets in 8 games at an average of 12.61 and is currently in possession of the 'Purple Cap'.

“He’s the unsung hero so many times. (So many times) Chahal has turned the match on its head with some real brilliance. He bowls good variety. In very tough situations his job gets cut out not just to stop the flow of runs but also pick up wickets, and he does that,” Shastri said.

The Rajasthan Royals are currently on a three-match winning streak and they will look to make it four-in-four when they take on the Mumbai Indians at the D.Y Patil Stadium on Saturday evening
