IPL 2022 | Legendary names call Dhawan a true T20 player, ask authorities to sing his anecdotes

Shikhar Dhawan’s T20 game has improved after joining the Delhi Capitals, as he smashed 521 runs last year and notched up 618 runs in 2020 to help the franchise reach impeccable heights in the previous two years.

In this edition’s auction, Dhawan was bought by Punjab Kings for a whopping INR 8.25 crore. Thus far, the left-handed batter has scored 302 runs in eight innings in the Indian Premier League 2022. And recently became the second batter in IPL’s history to achieve 6000 runs.

Signing praise for India’s opening maestro, Kevin Pietersen has said Dhawan makes the best balls look ordinary.

“No matter where you’re bowling (to them), the best players make some of the best deliveries look ordinary. That’s a skill that only the best batters have, and he’s one of them. He has that (extra) time, skill, and orthodox nature that makes it look as if he isn’t even hitting the ball hard, Pietersen mentioned on Star Sports Show.

Apart from the former England batter, Ravi Shastri has lauded the performance of Dhawan in the ongoing Indian T20 extravaganza. The former India coach believes that Dhawan deserves all the accolades he receives.

“I call him a gun player because, in our nation, most of the accolades have gone to Rohit and Virat, but when he’s fit, he’s been right up there with them. He is deserving of all the accolades he is receiving. In the IPL, he has a total of 6000 runs. He reads the conditions (very well), sees what the pitch has to offer, understands his role, and chooses the right bowlers to hit,” Shastri said in the same show.

Dhawan, who has been out of India’s T20I team since July 2021, will look to find a spot back in the national team as the inaugural champion of the T20 World Cup would travel to Australia for the global tournament later this year.
