Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have been far off from their best in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, winning just three out of their eight matches. While their batting unit heavily relies on skipper Shreyas Iyer, his inconsistent show in the tournament has not helped the franchise's cause.
On the bowling front, KKR have fared reasonably well, but the poor form of Varun Chakravarthy has somewhat spiked the worries. Although the 'Purple Army' is down, Shreyas Iyer backed the players to lead a solid turnaround, as they did last year.
The 27-year-old mentioned that KKR had a good start in the ongoing tournament but crooked in the last few matches to find themselves reeling at the eighth spot on the points table. However, Iyer is confident of the side making a comeback and becoming a force to reckon with once they gain the momentum.
"It's definitely a proud moment for me to captain such an amazing bunch of team where we see a lot of talent and hunger," Iyer said. "We got off to a really good start with three wins out of four games, but after that things didn't go pretty well for us, but I still believe in the team," Iyer said as quoted to kkr.in.
"We are ticking all the boxes to get on to the field and win matches. It's just the execution part [where we are lacking]. Other than that it's an amazing franchise to be a part of and I am really proud of how we have been doing so far. It's just a matter of time once we get going, we will be unstoppable as a team," he added.
With the IPL Qualifiers scheduled at Eden Gardens, Iyer is hopeful of KKR progressing to the next stage and putting on a show in front of the home crowd.
"We just got to know the qualifiers are at the Eden Gardens so we'll put in our 100 per cent efforts to see to it that we win the games and go out there and entertain the fans," Iyer added.
"The atmosphere has been amazing right from the start. The results are part and parcel of the game, and definitely, the way we have been preparing as a team it is simply outstanding and people are putting in hard yards to see to it we win matches. It is unfortunate that the results aren't going our way and as Sam said, we have built the foundation really well. It's just time to execute the right things at the right time," Iyer concluded.
Kolkata Knight Riders are next scheduled to face off Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 28 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
