IPL 2022 | DC vs RCB - Superstar, Under-performer of the Match

Delhi Capitals (DC) took on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Match 27 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai. The match turned out to be a competitive affair as both teams fought it out for the valuable two points. Moreover, let us look at who was the Superstar and Under-performer of the Match.

Superstar of the Match

Delhi won the toss and decided to field first. However, RCB’s effort fell weak initially as they lost Anuj Rawat and Faf du Plessis within the third over of the match. The score was 13 for two, and then the Bold Army lost the big fish - Virat Kohli via a run-out.

However, it was Glenn Maxwell who changed the momentum for his team. He laid a strong foundation with his efforts, on which Dinesh Karthik later capitalized.

Maxwell walked out to bat when RCB’s score was 13 for 2 in the third over of the innings. Norms dictate that a batter at this stage would be cautious and try not to lose his wicket. But while providing solidity to RCB’s progress, Maxwell made sure that their progress did not lose momentum.

Let us look at how Maxwell played it out in the middle.

Glenn Maxwell Strike Rate vs DC

Maxwell planned his innings perfectly. He gathered those ones and twos, while taking on the occasional risks. His strike rate at the beginning was 140, but this was the phase where he was lining up to go berserk. He waited for the right time and correct bowler to unleash the beast mode.

In the ninth over of the innings, Kuldeep Yadav came on, and Maxwell hit two sixes and one four. 23 runs came out of that, and the RCB innings were somewhat back on track.

DK scored higher and faster than Maxwell later in the innings, but the pressure under which Maxi scored made him the ‘Superstar of the Match.’

Under-performer of the Match

RCB posted a respectable total of 189 runs on the board in their 20 overs. While coming to chase the formidable total, DC were off to a blazing start as David Warner, and Prithvi Shaw scored 50 runs within the first five overs. Shaw was the first man to be dismissed, which bought Mitchell Marsh into the crease.

But at that stage of the innings, with Warner looking on song, a 30-run innings could have been enough to keep the DC chase on track.

It would have meant that Marsh had rotated the strike while Warner took on the bowlers keeping the required run-rate under control. But this was not meant to be.

Criticizing a man who’s playing almost after three months would be tasteless, but the whole of Delhi’s middle-order looked rusty, just not Marsh. Given that the Australia opener gave a solid platform, it was DC’s middle-order who lost on the plot. Hence, our Under-performer of the Match goes to the middle order of the Capitals; i.e. Mitchell Marsh (14 off 24), Rishabh Pant (34 off 17), Rovman Powell (0 off 1) and Lalit Yadav (1 off 4).
