IPL 2022 | Nobody wants to lose, but we are taking it on the chin: Jasprit Bumrah

Champion India and Mumbai Indians seamer Jasprit Bumrah has refused to admit that it's the end of the road for the five-time champions in the ongoing season after they fell to their sixth consecutive defeat on Saturday evening.

Mumbai's horror run in IPL 2022 continued on Saturday as they were once again outplayed in all departments by their opponents- Lucknow Super Giants.

This is the first time MI has lost six games on the bounce in their IPL history, but Bumrah doesn't believe it's the end of the road for the former heavyweights.

"It's not the end for us; we lost a game, yes, but that's how it is - one team has to win, one has to lose. That's how we are looking at it. Nobody is as disappointed as we are, but no one is shying away from the fact that we were not good enough. The table is not lying, and we will give our best in the remaining games," said Bumrah during the post-match press conference.

With several new players joining the set-up this year, Bumrah said that the management and senior cricketers are trying their best to help them settle into the environment.

"The team is new; everyone is trying to find themselves. We are looking at the positives, and the senior players are trying to motivate them," said Bumrah.

He signed off by stating that the think-tank will look to reflect on the past mistakes and start afresh with new strategies in the upcoming games.

"We will try to reflect on our mistakes and rectify them. Nobody wants to lose, but we are taking it on the chin. We are looking at what we can control; we accept that we haven't been good enough. We will return to the drawing board and come back with the same intensity. We cannot change the past, so it's important to look forward," he said.

Coming back to their latest defeat, familiar issues once again proved to be Mumbai's undoing. Their bowling unit sans Bumrah (0/24 in four overs) lacked venom, and the KL Rahul-led Supergiants took full toll of it, hammering 199 in 20 overs.

With the bat, the middle-order led by Dewald Brevis and Suryakumar Yadav played decent cameos, but again the opening duo and lack of any big knock meant that MI fell short by 18 runs.
